Homework

You will be set homework on a Friday (you can request a paper copy if you wish). It will be due the following Friday. The homework each week will alternate between Maths and English.

 

20.9.24 - English task: Write a book review on a favourite book or a book you have recently read. Include a short summary, your favourite part, and why you would recommend it to a friend. 

27.9.24 - Maths task: 

  • Choose 5-10 different items (either by visiting a supermarket or looking in kitchen cupboards). Write down the prices.
  • Round the prices of each item to the nearest pound.
  • Estimate the total cost of the items by adding the rounded prices.
  • After estimating, calculate the actual total using the exact prices.
  • Work out the difference between the estimated total and the actual total.

4.10.24 - English:

Research and write down facts about Boudicca which you will use when you do your independent biography next week.

11.10.24 - Maths:

Challenge yourself on TTRS (Times Table Rock Stars) on the soundcheck game. Can you beat your previous score? I will see your efforts and progression online. Good luck Jays. 

18.10.24 - English:

Dialogue Practice - Write a conversation between two characters using correct punctuation for speech. Try to use a variety of dialogue tags like "whispered" or "shouted" instead of just "said."

Alongside this, enjoy the two weeks off, have lots of rest and enjoy family time. Try to get on TTRS as much as possible and read whenever possible. It really does help.

Fact-File Creation: Create a simple fact file about Marcus Rashford, including important dates, achievements, and his contributions beyond football, like his campaigns against child hunger.

Maths- Multiplication and Division 

Use multiplication and division to create a piece of "Math Art." Pick a shape or design, and use multiplication tables (like 3x, 4x, etc.) to colour the parts of the shape. For example, you could design a mosaic using different coloured areas for multiples of different numbers.

English - Greeks

 Research Greek inventions - Find at least five significant things the ancient Greeks invented or contributed to modern society (e.g., democracy, philosophy, the Olympics, etc.). Present it as a poster with pictures and fun facts.

Draw a floor plan of a house/school etc. Measure the perimeter of each room. You can use made-up floor plans and sizes.

English - Greek God Social Media Profiles
Create a social media profile for a Greek god or goddess (e.g., Zeus, Athena, or Aphrodite). Write posts that they might share on their timeline, including photos (or drawings) and captions that show their personality and powers. Think about what kind of content each god would post—maybe Zeus posts thunderstorm pictures, while Apollo shares inspirational quotes.

Maths -  Organise a festival or event with a set budget. How can you divide the money across various needs like food, tickets, decorations, and entertainment? Use division to calculate how much of your budget will go to each section. Create a budget breakdown and show your calculations.

E.g.

  • Total Budget: £500 (this is the total money you have to spend)
  • Categories to Budget For:
  • Food and Drinks
  • Entertainment (Music, Performers, etc.)
  • Decoration

  • Research an animal of your choice and create a fact file. Include:

    • Diet - herbivore etc
    • Appearance - e.g. vertebrate/invertebrate

    • A labelled drawing

Maths - TTRS practise on garage.

Try and turn your heat map into shades of green - or just improve your speed with any times tables is perfect. If you already have a green map - can you get even faster?

Design Your Dream Classroom
Draw or describe what your ideal classroom would look like. You can include things like where the desks would be, what kind of decorations you would have, and any special features (e.g., a reading corner).
